1952-62. The largest fleet of BR locomotives was the 0-6-0
diesel-electric shunter based on various LMSR prototype designs, built
during pre- and post war years. Although the same basic body design
has been used for well over 1000 locomotives, various technical
differences existed within the type. These standard design 0-6-0
shunters could be seen at almost any location on the BR system as they
were allocated to all five operating regions.
