| Introduced
1962-5. Designed to be the standard Type 1 machine but after serious
engine problems the idea was dropped in favour of the Class 20.
Engines: Two Paxman 6-cyl of 450bhp at 1500rpm. (D8586/7 two Rolls Royce 8-cyl Type D of 450bhp.) Numbers (D)8500- 8616 (No TOPS numbers carried) 1980 Fleet Status: All withdrawn from traffic. More on the Class 17's
