Class 24

The first 20 Class 24's were built as a result of the 1955 Modernisation Scheme but subsequent builds saw the class eventually total 151. Further stages of their development led to the Class 25 design. Most of their lives were spent on the London Midland and Scottish regions - the last example was withdrawn in October 1980. Four machines survive in preservation.
