Class 40

 

Introduced in April 1958 of English Electric design and incorporating a 2000hp 16 cylinder  engine. At 133 tons, these locomotives were carried on two four axle bogies, 6 of which were fitted, again, with English Electric traction motors. All 200 examples are now withdrawn, but 7 survive in preservation, the pioneer as part of the National Collection.
