Class 42 & 43 |
|||
The Western Regions first production diesel-hydraulics introduced in 1958 and based on the German V200 locomotive design. The Warship locomotives were split into two classes, Class 42 for Bristol Siddeley Maybach engined examples and Class 43 with NBL/MAN power plants. As with the Class 52's their hydraulic transmission deemed them non-standard and withdrawals began in 1968 with the final machine leaving its BR employ in December 1972. Two examples, 821 Greyhound & 832 Onslaught today run in preservation. Engines:
Two Bristol Siddeley-Maybach MD650 v-type of 1152bhp (Class 42), two
NBL/MAN L12V18/21BS of 1100bhp (Class 43). Numbers: The Class 42/43 Fleet - Click Here Related
