September 1947 LMS vintage 12040
pictured at Crewe works, 24th August 1969. Built by the London Midland &
Scottish Railway as 7127, the locomotive went on to become 12040 in March 1952
and was one of the very few Class 11's to receive rail blue livery. Of further
interest in this photo is the fact that the locomotive has been incorrectly
prefixed with a 'D'; a possible oversight with works instructions with the
introduction of the 'new' livery.
