Although a very poor quality
image, the historical significance deserves an addition to the site. Two of the
three departmental Claytons, 8598 and 8512 stand in the receiving lines at Derby
Locomotive Works at the 1972 open day. Whether the locomotives actually entered
the works for attention remains a question. 8512 was possibly only required for
spares for its two sisters as it soon returned to the Scottish Region and was
scrapped at Glasgow Works in January 1973. '98 went on to see service at
the Research Department hauling a variety of test trains before it to returned to
St. Rollox for scrapping in March 1979.
