D6300 received its final major works visit during November/December 1966 during which it became one of the first main line locomotives to wear the rail blue livery. Here, three months after withdrawal and still looking in surprisingly good condition, the pioneer of the class, stands dumped at Laira on the 13th August 1968. From here the locomotive was towed to Cashmores at Newport and was reduced to scrap by January of the following year.
