The only member of the ten-strong class to receive rail blue livery, D9509, pictured with D5905 at Stratford on the 15th January 1971. At this time these were the only two Class 23's left in service, and with not much prospect of future work; D5905 was withdrawn one month later, D5909 lasted a little longer, withdrawn in March of the same year.
