24 063 awaits the cutters torch at
Doncaster works in 1979. The 24 was the penultimate machine left in service
expiring while working a Birkenhead Dock - Shotwick iron ore service when it
collided with wagons hauled by 25 158. The damage can just be made out on the
rear cab and bodyside. It's engine however was transplanted into the research
departments 24 061, still working today as preserved D5061 at the
North Yorkshire Moors Railway.
