25 307 draws up to its train at Holyhead, 16th August 1980. Towards the end of its life, 25 307 was placed into departmental service and allocated the number 968026, although it is doubtful it carried this identity. It did become however, 25 908, one of twelve Class 25's (25 901 - 25 912) selected for dedicated freight work in the northwest. It finally ended its days in August 1988 at Vic Berrys scrapyard in Leicester. The machine became the 300th Class 25 to be withdrawn.
