Two Class 253 units, 253 033 and 253 018 stand at Paddington with trains from the West Country. Both await crews to man the return journey, as can be seen by the red (rear) marker lights still being displayed. Of note is the raised exhaust deflector fitted to the roof of 253 033 (the first to be fitted being 253 006), a modification to prevent exhaust grime coating the rear power cars' windscreen - yet to be fitted to 253 018. 27th October 1979.
