As with other classes, the front end gangway doors on the Class 26 locomotives were either sealed up or completely plated over. Used for crews to pass from one locomotive to another during multiple working, the practice was seldom utilised, and when the machines were used as single units the doors produced unbearable draughts. A further modification can be seen here - the plating over of the door droplight windows. 26 007 is the former Class 26 pioneer D5300, introduced on the 30th July 1958, allocated new to Hornsey depot in London before moving north of the border to Scotland with the rest of its class members.
