Under the BTC Modernisation Scheme of 1955, Brush were to supply 20 Type 2 locomotives for evaluation on BR. Two of these pioneer Class 31's, 31 002 and 31 006 (D5502 and D5506), are seen at Stratford Depot, c.1978.
