During 1981 several Class 33 locomotives were transferred to Cardiff Canton depot to operate the Cardiff - Crewe services in place of the Crewe based Class 25's. The short lived services were introduced with the June 1981 timetables, with crew training beginning with the locomotives in the March of the same year. Here, 33 009 is seen with Class 85 electric 85 008 at its destination.
