Derby locomotive works undertook spasmodic repairs to the class throughout their lives possibly when other workshops were full to capacity. In August 1977, 40 179 is seen in the early stages of its last major overhaul along with an unidentified member of the class in the background. More common visitors to the plant, also on view, are numerous Class 25's.
