Haymarket based 40 062, seen on the stabling point at Peterborough, 13th May 1978. 062 was part of a batch of seven locomotives ( D260 - D266) that were modified by the removal of the front end gangway doors and the addition of a centre headcode box. These machines were identifiable by a 'dip' on the bottom line of the front nose-end bodywork, and the headcode boxes fitted bore more squarer corners than the production examples. Differences could also be seen in the placings of handrails and lamp brackets. 40 062 became even more unique, when, after an accident in the mid-1970's, the yellow plate and marker lights replaced the glass, as seen above. Introduced in September 1960, the locomotive was withdrawn in November 1981, and cut up at Swindon in June 1983.
