Swindon works open day on the 7th September 1974 and a unique feature that wouldn't be allowed today! Enthusiasts were invited to bring their own tools and remove any parts they desired from the scrap hydraulics, whether big or small, as souvenirs. Payment was made at scrap metal prices and the profits were donated to charity. I seem to recall the bizarre sight of various large components along with their newly proud owners waiting for trains on Swindon station at the end of the day! 824 Highflyer and 806 Cambrian succumb to their new owners in the main shop at the works.
