Withdrawn in April 1978, a forlorn looking 44 005 Cross Fell prepares for the end at Derby Locomotive Works on the 13th October of the same year. With the nose end removed ready for final scrapping, note the old connection corridor still in place, a feature that was removed from the Class 45's with the sealing up of the front end gangway doors.
