The white marks on the bogies represent a 1970's method of crack detection; three aerosol containers were used, firstly a solvent to penetrate the suspected crack, secondly a red die which highlighted any defects found, and finally a white powder/paint application which provided a complete picture of any work that needed to be carried out.
