The original D1661 North Star,
and then TOPS 47 077, became 47 613 in May 1984 after conversion to electric
train heating. Further renumbering saw it become 47 840 in October 1989 before
final withdrawal came in May 2007. Today the locomotive remains as one of the
many preserved Class 47's, based at the
West Somerset
Railway, back again as D1661 and in 1960's two-tone green livery. The
machine is pictured above during its BR career at Salisbury on the 14th July
1986.
