In September 1988 47 480 Robin Hood was removed from regular stock to spend the rest of its days in departmental service. Initially, the locomotive was renumbered 97 480 but went on to become 47 971 in July of the following year, until withdrawal came in July 2000. The machine is pictured at Derby Etches Park in 1990.
