In 1988 47 545 was transferred to
departmental service based at the Railway Technical Centre Derby and initially
renumbered 97545. 1989 saw a further renumbering to 47 972 and the machine is
pictured here at Derby in that guise during the early 1990's. A later revision
came with a livery change; a red upper bodyside band with light grey for the
rest. Plates were also added at this time bearing the name The Royal Army
Ordnance Corps.
