47 032 crossing the central piers of the Royal Albert Bridge separating Devon from Cornwall on the 1st May 1976. The construction of this bridge, by the engineering legend Isambard Kingdom Brunel is a lasting monument to the Victorian era. The spans were placed on the piers at river level, the piers were built upwards, and the spans were painstakingly jacked up until the eventual height was reached! Not a crane or hoist involved!
