In 1979, twelve Class 47/4's were converted to Class 47/7 for exclusive use on Glasgow - Edinburgh push/pull services. The most visible difference to these locomotives were the fitting of jumpers to the front ends, as can be seen here on 47 708 Waverley at Haymarket depot, Edinburgh, 26th June 1981. The last two locomotives of the sub-class, 47 711 & 47 712 were allocated the names William Wallace and Prince Charles Edward but after a local radio contest these were changed to Greyfriars Bobby & Lady Diana Spencer and were named by the winners at Glasgow Queen Street and Edinburgh Waverley.
