By 1980 the Class 50's were firmly established on Waterloo - Exeter services; a route fully covered in previous years by the Class 33's and the Warships. Here, an un-refurbished 50 049 Defiance awaits departure to its West Country destination on the 5th August of that year. Occupying the adjacent bay are two Class 73 locomotives, one of which is identified as 73 116.
