During its final years, doyen of the class, 50 050 became quite a celebrity amongst railway circles and was used for several farewell railtours. The machine is pictured here in its pre-TOPS guise as D400, minus nameplates and the addition of an 'On Hire From English Electric' plate as carried when the 50 was new. Also in the line-up is another 'star' of the locomotives' final years 50 007 Sir Edward Elgar in Great Western green livery. The location is Salisbury on the 21st June 1992.
