Newly named 50 001 Dreadnought draws to a halt at Exeter St. Davids, 17th August 1978. As can be seen, the new nameplates seem to be hastily applied without a thought of the locomotive being repainted. Note the crudely painted out BR emblem. The poor state of the rail blue paint was, at the time, blamed on the chemicals in washing plants, and, by the action of sea salt on the Devon Coasts; a problem inherited from the Class 52 'Westerns'.
