In connection with the 150th anniversary of the Liverpool & Manchester Railway, 86 235 was outshopped with large numerals (similar to those applied to newly liveried Class 56, 56 036), and a printed panel on the locomotives side commemorating the event (see also photograph below). The locomotive was also suitably named Novelty. The machine is pictured at Euston on the 1st December 1979.
