Possibly one of the most remarkable classes to reach TOPS renumbering were the two 1956 vintage Andrew Barclay Class 01's. The fact that the pair worked the Holyhead breakwater line, which was not connected to the main rail system, possibly helped in their survival. 01 001 & 01 002 (D2954 & D2955) finally bowed out in September 1979 and March 1981 respectively still carrying their 1950's black livery with British Railways 'lion & wheel' emblems. The two machines are pictured at their Holyhead base on the 17th January 1974.
