Withdrawn Class 04 No. D2229 at Thornaby depot, 9th August 1970. Although the locomotive has been stripped of its wheels the machine looks in suprisingly good condition.  All was not lost, however, and D2229 eventually reached the ranks of the preservationists and can be viewed today at Peak Rail in Derbyshire.
