Stratford depot on the 29th March 1969, and a pair of the infamous North British Class 16 locomotives headed by D8406 stand withdrawn in the yard. Ten of these Paxman engined machines were built under the modernisation programme, and with engine seizures a common occurrence must have rated the least successful of all BR diesel locomotive designs ever produced.
