47 117 (D1705) Today

47 117 finally ended its days on BR in July 1991 and its first move in preservation was to the East Lancs Railway. Shortly afterwards came a move to the Great Central Railway in Loughborough where it was bought by the Type One Locomotive Association. Returned to its two tone green livery, 47 117 is a regular performer on the line. Of historical interest is that when the locomotive was delivered new in November 1965, it was one of only five machines fitted with the 12LVA24 vee type engine and thus designated Class 48. Four years later the loco was fitted with a standard engine and joined its Class 47 stablemates. Initial allocation was to Darnall depot in Sheffield, but most of its working life was spent at Stratford, North London. The locomotive is pictured here at Loughborough on the GCR, 27th March 2004.
