On the 6th August, 1989, 50 025 heading the 21.45 Oxford - Paddington, hit a length of rail placed across the lines by vandals, approaching West Ealing station. The train derailed on pointwork and the engine came to rest on its side with the first coach riding up over the rear cab of the loco. Thankfully, no one was seriously injured.
