In 1960, an experiment was carried out by British Railways to improve the visibility of its new locomotives to trackside staff. This resulted in new Class 31 locomotive No. D5579 being out-shopped in a pleasing golden ochre livery. The outcome is replicated here on one of its sister machines D5830 (31 297, 31 463) seen here at the Great Central Railway on the 30th April 2005.
