A well-weathered D8048 pauses at Quorn at the Great Central Railway on the 30th April 2005. D8048 holds a little known celebrity status. In 1966 the locomotive was chosen for livery experiments for the 'new' rail blue colour scheme and became the first example of a generation of 'Monastral Blue' locomotives. The machine was finally withdrawn from main-line service in November 1990.
