The historic rollout in 1947 of the UK's first diesel electric main line locomotive 10000. Of note are the huge spotlights for the filming of this event and the dress and haircuts of the works staff!

Today, few would believe this was the same location for that historic event. 46 years later the area is now a shadow of its former self and has reverted to just another 'corner of a building'. A few reminders remain; the window apertures are still present, albeit with new windows and the roof line can be picked out well, although the left hand bay has had its roof raised by what looks like about six foot. In the foreground, the original trackwork remains although this is now only a small storage area and the lines are again severed some 20 feet behind me. The building now, has no rail connection whatsoever. The top photograph, possibly due to its age, is uncredited, but is kindly donated for use on this website by David Hills.
